Annual General Meeting Julie Rose Stadium Friday 6 June 2008 Present: Ian Grant, Ian Wolverson, Grahame McKenzie, Paul Davison and Lorna Astbury (Secretary). There were 7 Members present. In attendance: Mr Graham Jordan, HSBC Commercial Mortgage Broker (Speaker) Apologies: Paul Smallwood, Charles Wilkinson, David Holman Chairman’s Address The Chairman welcomed the members and thanked them for attending. He passed on the apologies of our Patron, Lady Mountbatten, as she is recovering from surgery; all joined in wishing her a speedy recovery. He explained that the Chairman and Committee must retire at this time and stand for re-election. In the absence of any new nominations the Chairman was re-elected; proposed by John Talbot and seconded by Peter Morgan. Again, in the absence of any new nominations the Committee were re-elected en bloc; proposed by Brian Parritt and seconded by Peter Morgan. Treasurer’s Report The Treasurer pointed out that the reduced income required some further nvestigation; it was known that some members were now deceased and some had not paid their subscriptions. He suggested that it would be necessary to look at either fund raising or cutting costs. It was agreed to carry this forward to the agenda of the next meeting. The Treasurer was thanked for his report. The members wished to endorse this and to congratulate the Chairman on his excellent newsletter. The Chairman highlighted the difficulties he had had in securing a speaker from a raft of Estate Agents and Developers he had approached. He had been disappointed with the general apathy. However, he was delighted to introduce the Speaker he had engaged for the evening, Mr Graham Jordan, of HSBC’s Commercial Centre in Ashford. Mr Jordan gave an illuminating talk on Mortgages and the ebb and flow of the mortgage market over recent years. The informative presentation gave way to a lively discussion on the current economic climate. Ian Wolverson then gave a fascinating presentation on ‘Ashford’s Future’.
